Palinka - French Gypsy Jazz

The members of the group met in Paris (2003) around Jazz manouche (Gypsy Jazz) and music from the east (Eastern Europe). Being very enthusiastic about their music, they went on tour in a van and performed in the streets, bars and at Jazz festivals…
Their summer tour strengthened the understanding among band members and it also showed their common tastes for music. By the end of the summer the new group was formed and started working on songs written by Daniel. Up to date they have been performing continuously.
Their first ‘real’ tour was in 2004, organized by the band itself. They toured France in a van and from August to October they toured the Balkans traveling up to Romania. They played in the streets and also had some improvised concerts according to the public they met.
In 2005 they toured intensively with concerts in bars, at various festivals in Paris and in the countryside. More and more their own creations started replacing the traditional Jazz manouche.
In 2006 the band recorded their first album “Un malin Plaisir”.
From their beginning in 2003, the Palinka band members take a lot of pleasure in performing together and by attracting large crowds to their conerts with Jazz manouche (Gypsy Jazz) and their own creations.
They like to perform and travel around the world discovering new territories and sharing their passion for music with the local public.

10 Second Rule has been invited to open for Palinka! In line with the theme of the even, that being a festival of world jazz music, we will be giving a new twist to a few songs that are, as of yet, unrecorded and unreleased. Hope to see you there!

Thriloka

Thriloka is live on Monday 27th August at Barefoot starting at 7pm where they will be launching their 2nd album titled "Bisura". Uvindu from 10 Second Rule, a talent on bass, also plays alongside the most talented and varied bunch of musicians we've seen in one band in Thriloka.
Tickets are 500 rupees and include a free CD. Be there or be a coconut.

Gig tonight!

Wow, the last 4 weeks have been quite eventful! We've gone from no where to just about ready for the gig and boy are we excited.

Having started off just jamming on acoustics, we got Naveen on board about 4 weeks back. With no luck with a bassist, we were ready to take the stage as a three piece with no bass, much like The White Stripes. However, Uvindu was a god-send. He's only been playing with us for the last week and a half but he gels well with the music and the band!

So with a complete band, an album ready for sale and a gig tonight we are good to go!

Rockapoluza???

The name is an attention getter if not anything else. The Sunday Times of today (29/07/07) has featured the gig here. Very excited about the line-up; We would be, even if we weren't playing. We're slightly more confident now too after Thursday's jam as Uvindu added an extra oomph to the sound with his funky bass lines. We're jamming again this afternoon too so that we can tighten the set.
5 days to go!

The Elusive Bassist

We've hunted high and low for a bassist. Anyone who plays guitar can, at least in theory, play bass. But we wanted someone who can do more. Someone who could add some flavour to the music we play.

We spoke to many potentials, but none materialised. However, Uvindu, from the band Thriloka, has agreed to step in and play bass for us at the next gig at Onyx. Having seen him play before, he is just what we are looking for. Unfortunately he's already in a few other bands. But it'll be great to have him on board for Rockapaluzza (as the Onyx gig has been named).

He joins us for his first jam with the band tonight. Fingers crossed.
